This work represents each of the services provided by Australian women during the war. Five individual faces cast from original photographs depict the following women: Coral Farrelly, Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAAF); Helen Heathcote, Australian Women’s Army Services (AWAS); Betty Bradwell, Australian Army Nursing Services (AANS); Jean Copley, Women’s Royal Naval Service (WRANS); and Cora Sinclair, Australian Army Medical Women’s Service (AAMWS). The black granite boulder was chosen especially for the work by the artists at Sedan in South Australia, because of its relationship to the land.
